Unit Overview
The children will begin by going on a Bear Hunt around the school garden. They will find clues that will lead them to the Bear. The children will then read and enjoy the repetitive story – We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen. As they are reading the story, they will begin to recognise some of the repetitive vocabulary and join in with the key phrases. The children will then make links with their personal experience of going on the Bear Hunt in the school garden. As the children read the book, they will begin to talk about and recognise features of a recount. They will recognise and use the personal pronoun ‘I’, they will use temporal connectives to order events and they will use exclamation marks with growing accuracy. The children will then plan and write their own recount for their treasure hunt around the school garden.
