As the children enter the class each morning, a very naughty toy bus will get up to mischief!  As a class the children will read ‘The Naughty Bus’. The children will make simple predictions based on what they have read. They will begin to make links from what they have read to their own personal experiences. The children will then be encouraged to notice any unfamiliar words within the text and learn new strategies to help them remember the meaning of new words. The children learn about the how the suffix ‘ed’ is added to rood words and begin to understand the concept of past tense. They will also order the days of the week and write each day name using capitalisation. In supported groups, children will then take their class ‘toy bus’ on an adventure around the school grounds. They will then write their own simple recount of ‘The Naughty Bus’, they will use the grammatical knowledge taught in the unit, capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. They will also use days of the week to signify the days in the recount.
