Unit Overview:
In this unit, children will be introduced to the text ‘Mr. Wolf’s Pancakes’ by Jan Fearnley with an exciting hook! They will receive a letter from Mr. Wolf who has been trying to make pancakes in the classroom. The class will then follow a simple recipe to make their own pancakes. Using the pancake recipe provided, children will be taught the features of a recipe. The class will enjoy reading the text ‘Mr. Wolf’s Pancakes’ through shared reading lessons will teach verbal prediction skills, inference skills, sequencing and retelling the story. Children will then use elements from the story to recognise and use question marks, writing their own question sentences. They will then explore a range of imperative (bossy) verbs, used to command the action for each step of a recipe. Shared and guided writing will carefully model to steps to write a pancake recipe. The children will all contribute to writing a class pancake recipe book.
