Unit Overview:
The children receive a box of toys from the local toy museum! The children will explore the box and make simple sentences to describe some of the toys inside the box. The children will listen to and begin to join in with the story ‘Lost in the toy museum’ by David Lucas. The children will consider the significance of the title of the book and they will make ‘wonderings’ about what might get lost. The children will then begin to make some simple inferences about characters from the story based on evidence from the book.  Next the children will take part in role play activities, verbalising a ‘News Report’ on the ‘Lost Toys’. The children will sequence the story and begin to use the language to order sentences. Then they will learn the importance of the conjunction ‘and’ and how it is used to extend a sentence. The children will be introduced a planning document, they will plan their ideas for writing a simple news report about the ‘Missing Toys’.
