Unit overview:
The children will read a variety of non – chronological reports linked to the science unit on ‘Materials’. They will build on their understanding of the organisation and lay out of non – fiction books. They will unpick a text and identify the features of a non – chronological report.  Following that, they will learn the grammar skills required to write their own non – chronological report about different materials and their properties. They will focus on writing sentences with commas in a list, subordination, expanded noun phrases and writing in the present tense. They will practise making notes about different materials with a focus on technical vocabulary. Then the children will plan, draft and edit their own non – chronological report on their choice of materials studied in the science lessons.
