This KS1 'Materials' Science unit includes planning for 6 lessons linked to the KS1 Science National Curriculum Objectives. The zip file also includes all worksheets to accompany each lesson.
In this unit, the children will begin by playing a practical game to identify objects, their materials and their properties.  They will then move on to sorting a range of materials into different groups of their choice. They will then begin to sort them into man-made and natural materials. Following that, the children will carry out a simple investigation comparing how things move on different surfaces.  They will then investigate how different materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching. They will begin to make simple predictions and start to record their findings onto tables. The children will end this unit by investigating which is the most absorbent material.
