Unit Overview:

This unit will be introduced with the concept of timelines and recognising the differences between the past and present. Children find out about the Great Fire of London, how did it start, how did it spread? They will begin to have a clearer picture of past and present, noticing differences between images from history and from today. The children will have opportunities to sequence the events from The Great Fire in 1666. They will then understand what Samuel Pepys’s diary revealed about life in 1666. They will consider why the fire spread so quickly and lasted so long. The children will then explore how London was rebuilt, what changes were made and how we have learnt from the past. Following the history elements of the unit, the children will then proceed to design and make their own model Tudor houses. To do this they will take a closer look at the features of Tudor houses and create a design of their own. They will then select appropriate materials and tools to construct their very own Tudor house for a classroom display.
